Article introduction
This article examines Iran’s position in BRICS and the potential consequences of its membership in this international body. Using realist theory, the study analyzes BRICS as an instrument of China’s balancing strategy against US hegemony and explores the opportunities that cooperation with BRICS members could offer Iran.
The findings show that Iran’s membership in BRICS can promote closer relations with the Global South, expand trade and regional exchanges, develop economic infrastructure, attract foreign investment, boost energy trade and oil sales, and mitigate sanctions. At the same time, membership offers Iran a chance to play an active role in building a multipolar order and resisting US hegemony, provided that these opportunities are leveraged in line with national interests and through careful planning.
