About the article
This article examines the relationship between the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and BRICS within the broader transition from a unipolar to a multipolar international system. The study shows that Iran’s foreign-policy principles—non-dependence, rejection of domination, and support for self-determination—align closely with BRICS objectives such as weakening US hegemony and strengthening global multipolarity.
The results indicate that through cooperation with BRICS, Iran can enhance its political, economic, and military position and function as a soft balancer against the United States. Convergence between Iran and BRICS is also evident in efforts to reform UN structures, reduce dependence on the dollar, strengthen popular sovereignty, and counter Western cultural dominance.
The article underscores the importance of deliberate, gradual coordination between Iran and BRICS and warns that neglect or delay in engaging with this emerging bloc may limit Iran’s strategic opportunities in the evolving global order. The study provides clear insights into mechanisms of convergence and highlights BRICS’s role in enhancing Iran’s status in a multipolar world.
