About the article
This article analyzes factors influencing Iran’s saffron exports to BRICS countries using a panel data model for the period 1990–2015. The findings show that BRICS countries’ GDP, the real exchange rate, and population have positive effects on Iran’s saffron exports, while the export price of saffron has a negative effect.
Based on the results, rising per capita income in BRICS countries plays an important role in expanding Iran’s saffron exports, highlighting the importance of strengthening economic ties with these states. Moreover, given the low price elasticity of saffron in target markets, improving packaging quality and processing can increase value added and competitiveness.
The article stresses that bilateral and regional agreements with BRICS states can, under sanctions and exchange-rate volatility, provide a favorable opportunity for developing Iran’s agricultural exports. By identifying key influencing factors, the study offers practical guidance for export planning and leveraging the potential of emerging markets.
