About the article
This article analyzes the place of energy in relations between Iran and BRICS. The authors emphasize that the global economy is shifting from a Western-centered model to a more multipolar structure, in which emerging powers such as China, Russia, India, Brazil, and South Africa play an increasingly prominent role. In such a structure, energy becomes a central axis of international cooperation and competition.
The article shows that, given the continued global reliance on hydrocarbons in the coming decades and rising energy demand, BRICS countries have an increasing need for secure energy supplies. In this context, Iran—due to its second-largest proven oil and gas reserves and its unique geoeconomic and geopolitical position linking the Persian Gulf, the Caspian Sea, the Indian subcontinent, and the Mediterranean—can serve as a key strategic partner for BRICS.
The authors conclude that energy-centered relations between Iran and BRICS can strengthen Iran’s role in the future multipolar order and boost economic and geostrategic cooperation between the two sides.
