This study investigates the relationship between education and green growth (GG) in BRICS countries, given their simultaneous economic expansion and environmental challenges. The authors argue that advancing green growth is essential to achieving sustainable development while improving environmental quality. Using an augmented ARDL approach, the study confirms a long-term cointegration between education and green growth. Further analysis with the wavelet quantile correlation method reveals a nuanced dynamic: education enhances green growth over the long term, but in the short term, it may temporarily reduce green growth.

The findings suggest that education can be a critical driver of environmental sustainability, as it equips populations with the knowledge and skills necessary for adopting green technologies and sustainable practices. Policymakers are encouraged to integrate environmental and sustainability curricula across educational levels, promote awareness programs, and support research that links education to practical green initiatives. By fostering environmentally conscious human capital, BRICS countries can strengthen their long-term trajectory toward a greener economy while addressing the immediate challenges of balancing growth with environmental preservation.
